Cloudscene Releases Data Center Ecosystem Leaderboard

HONOLULU, Hawaii, 21 January 2019 – Cloudscene, the world’s largest industry resource and marketplace of colocation data centers, cloud service providers and network fabrics, has released its data center ecosystem leaderboard rankings for the second half of the 2018 calendar year.

The leaderboard ranks the top ten carrier-neutral service providers based on the connectivity and density of operated data centers across North America, EMEA, Oceania and Asia. The H2, 2018 leaderboard saw Equinix retain its first-place position in all four regions

The global data center giant has led Cloudscene’s leaderboard since the official rankings began in 2017. The entrance of South African operator Teraco disrupted the EMEA leaderboard, resulting in the exit of Orange Business Services from the top ten rankings. Edgeconnex, Fujitsu and Web Werks were also notable new entrants to Cloudscene’s leaderboard rankings.

Speaking from the Pacific Telecommunications Council conference in Honolulu, Cloudscene’s founder, Bevan Slattery said: “Whilst competition in this industry is at an all-time high, the increasing demand for colocation services meant 2018 presented an enormous amount of potential for data center operators worldwide.

“We’re also seeing a lot of interesting changes in the landscape of this industry. Connectivity to the cloud is critical as most are well aware, but the way in which customers connect to the cloud is evolving. Cloudscene will be focusing heavily on this in 2019,” Bevan said.

Formerly a quarterly leaderboard, Cloudscene now collates the half-yearly data on both the data center density (total facilities in the region) and connectivity (total service providers across all data centers in the region) to determine an overall score. Selected from a pool of more than 7,000 service providers listed on Cloudscene, the H2, 2018 data center ecosystem leaderboard rankings are as follows:

Cloudscene’s Interim General Manager, Renée Harper, said “Cloudscene’s directory and marketplace is providing a level of transparency that the industry has needed for some time.“We’ll continue to service the industry with robust, independent data and call on all service providers and data center operators to proactively maintain their data on Cloudscene to better support the market,” said Renée.
