LON3 will offer approximately 1,800 square meters of equipped space and 3MW of power capacity. According to CEO David Ruberg, customer interest for services in London has continued since last summer’s Brexit vote, and Interxion’s Central London campus has seen strong interest from the financial services, digital media and connectivity sectors.4D Launches New UK Data CenterCloud provider and data center operator 4D has opened a new colocation facility in Crawley, 45km south of London. 4D Gatwick is the first data center of its kind in the area, delivering colocation, connectivity and cloud services to businesses across London, Kent, Sussex and Surrey. With 400 racks, a capacity of 3MW, and resilient fiber connectivity, the new facility will deliver infrastructure and employment benefits to Crawley as well as a large number of local towns and cities.Colocation Data Centers Hit New European Power RecordEurope’s colocation data center market has set a new record in terms of power uptake. Together, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris registered total power take-up of 155MW in 2016. According to CBRE, the London market gained 49MW of power uptake, almost triple the take-up of Paris at 17.6MW. In percentage terms, this was the largest year-on-year increase ever recorded. CBRE noted that hyper-scale cloud deals are becoming increasingly common, with 70% of deals now arising from the cloud sector.Kao Data Raises £33m to Fund London Data Center CampusUK data center developer, Kao Data, has secured £33 million to fund an 8.7MW data center facility outside London. The campus, Kao Data London One, will form part of a new science and technology park on the site where Sir Charles Kao co-discovered the technology behind fiber optic cable in the 1960s. Kao Park will open in late 2017, offering a combination of colocation facilities and office space. Tenants will include Raytheon and Arrow Electronics. When completed, the new data center will be one of Britain’s largest.French Hosting Company OVH to Open First UK Data Center in May 2017OVH plans to open its first UK data center this May. The new London facility, previously owned by a telecoms company, will house up to 40,000 servers but won’t offer colocation services, instead focusing on hosting and cloud solutions. It will link to OVH’s existing London PoP via a redundant double-fiber path. OVH hopes to complete the fit-out within six months, and will eventually establish two more UK facilities for disaster recovery purposes. Founded by Octave Klaba in 1999, OVH already runs 17 global data centers, hosting over one million websites and supporting 700,000+ customers. The new center will include direct fiber connection to OVH facilities in Europe, Canada and the USA.Colt Expands London Data Centre Amid Growing Cloud and Colocation DemandColt recently announced the completion of four new data center halls with 2,000 square meters of additional colocation space across its flagship London 3 Data Center site. Driven by relentless demand for London-based cloud hosting and colocation services, the expansion increases Colt’s IT capacity by 53% from 5.6MW to 12MW. Design features include a distributed cooling system and hot aisle containment that helps to deliver higher power densities of 8kW per rack.Oracle Announces UK Data Centre Availability DomainsOracle intends to establish a London-based cloud region, known as an Availability Domain, served by three data centers this year. It’s part of Oracle’s plan to double its cloud platform presence with 29 regions available globally. Each region will include three low-latency, high-bandwidth facilities, located within several kilometers of each other and operating fault-independently. Oracle believes this approach will guarantee the high level of availability and failure protection needed to support the demanding cloud applications of its customers. Further regions will launch in North America, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region next year.65,000 Square Meter Cambridge Data Center Campus Draws CloserUK Developer, Lasercharm, is proceeding with plans to establish a large-scale data center campus 45 minutes outside London.
